Critical Design.

Detagotchi is a critical design product that investigates personal data generation and the agency over data. It speculates about the evolution of influences between user and technology in the immediate future. How far can artificial intelligence stretch to personalise technology?

The project attempts to create the ultimate personalised software through machine learning, a virtual self. It assists the user in everyday life through advice and predictions.

Commonly machine learning assumptions are processed in the back-end of software. The Detagotchi turns this part of the backend into the frontend, to face the user.

The virtual self lives already in the social media accounts and devices of users. Webpages customise their search results, advertisements and posts on the individual user. Access to the origin of those assumptions is barred.

To what extent do we want to use the constrained possibilities of machine learning, without having any agency over it?
